Carmanah Solar Marine Lighting Systems
Carmanah M800 Series Solar Powered Marine Lanterns Selected by US Coast Guard VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA (September 24, 2014)Carmanah Technologies Corporation (TSX: CMH), has been awarded a multi-year contract to supply marine aids-to-navigation to the US Coast Guard. The Carmanah M800 Series marine lantern was the product of choice in the Small and Large Self Contained LED Lantern categories per USCG Solicitation # HSCG84-14-R-BHQ044. While there is no guaranteed financial value of purchases in the contract, the solicitation provides a targeted guidance for purchase quantities of $3.4M USD over the life of the contract, which may be up to 5 years if all option years are exercised.
“This is an important award for Carmanah as it affirms that our new line of solar self-contained marine lanterns meets the stringent standards set by the US Coast Guard,” said John Simmons, CEO. “In the last year-and-a-half these lanterns have been adopted in Canada, Latin America, Europe and into Southeast Asia. We expect this latest award to positively influence even more marine authorities around the world to consider the use of Carmanah lanterns in their aids-to-navigation systems.”
As pioneers in the marine lighting industry, Carmanah Technologies has been designing and manufacturing rugged, reliable and high-value solar aids-to-navigation for nearly two decades. Since 2002, Carmanah has been under contract to supply marine lights to the USCG. The new M800 Series marine lanterns were launched in the Spring of 2013 and combine the best of Carmanah's early product features with robust composite material construction, updated high-efficiency optical design and new user-friendly programming options.
“The success of the M800 Series is reflective of our strategy to become leaders in each of the markets we serve,” said Simmons. “Later this year, in conjunction with our partner Sabik Oy, we will add more industry-leading functionality by pairing the M800’s optional satellite connectivity with a new cloud-based monitoring software. The Lightguard Monitor suite will provide marine authorities the ability to reliably monitor the status and location of their navigation aids for greater safety and with lower maintenance costs.”
